In this latest exhibition of Andrew Todd’s new watercolour paintings he continues his idiosyncratic conversation with his adopted landscape of East Kent where he now lives. In Ice Age paintings 1, 2 and 3 he embraces the clashing and interlinked forms and shapes of our temporarily frozen winter landscape. Moments frozen in time at our feet appear like a the surface of a strange, newly explored planet seen from space. He continues exploring moments frozen in time with another new painting Twins. Inspired by a 7th birthday photograph of Andy’s Aunty Katherine and Aunty Jennifer that appeared in the Hull Daily Mail in the early 1960’s. The use of intense saturated colours transports Kath and Jen to another planet. New work that distorts and blurs the line between photographs and painting and explores the distorting power of nostalgia and how we continually edit our personal memories to make sense of our current reality.
